A leading manufacturer of high-performance suspension systems for motorsports and street performance was facing a persistent challenge: under specific conditions, a shock absorber was emitting a squeaking noise. This was not consistent with the premium quality standards the company upholds. Given the tribological nature of the issue, the manufacturer sought our expertise for a PTFE-based solution. We collaborated to determine which materials and thicknesses could provide the optimal combination of wear resistance, flexibility, and acoustics under demanding conditions.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n

Our approach to this project is outlined below.<\/h2>\n <\/div>\n

\n Step 1: Analysis of the specification problem <\/span>\n

A joint assessment was conducted to ascertain the precise conditions under which the noise occurred, the pressure and movement profiles in the shock absorber, the required wear resistance, friction and temperature resistance.<\/p>\n

This provided a clear framework for the choice of materials.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

\n Step 2: Initial test: PTFE-coated glass fabric<\/span>\n

We selected various options in terms of variants and thicknesses, and cut them to size using our precision cutting plotter.<\/p>\n

We then sent the first test order.<\/p>\n

Regarding the fit, this was perfect, however the performance was found to be insufficient.<\/p>\n

Specifically, there was excessive wear and continued squeaking noise when under load.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

\n Step 3: Reanalysis and second test: PTFE film<\/span>\n

Following a period of evaluation, we took the decision to test a radically different material class: namely, high-density PTFE film. This was cut to size with the same high precision as the previous material.<\/p>\n

The results of this experiment were as follows: the new material boasted a perfect fit, a significantly longer service life, and completely eliminated the squeaking noise that had been present in the previous model.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

\n Step 4: Validation and design confirmation<\/span>\n

The fourth step in the process was validation and design confirmation.<\/p>\n

We reviewed the results collectively, focusing on performance, durability, and reproducibility. PTFE foil emerged as the sole solution that consistently remained silent under both dynamic load and extreme conditions. The implementation of PTFE foil completely eradicates squeaking, extends the service life, and elevates the performance of high-end shock absorbers to the desired premium level.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n
